So, here we are at the end of April, and we are finally feeling some more Spring-like weather! We still have a bunch of snow in the woods and Big Moose Lake has a good bit of ice on it, but at least it is slowly melting. A local guy cut a hole in West Bay last week and it measured 31″! Looks like the ice out won’t be until sometime in May! Even with the ice still covering the lake, the loons and ducks are making their way back.
Read MoreFor the last month, we’ve been working towards putting our staff together for the 2018 season. So far, we are seeing a bunch of our “kids” return! And we love it! This team that we are able to put together, they are part of the life-blood of The Waldheim. The ones who come back year after year after year, help us create the family culture that we strive for. As with any business, it isn’t always rainbows and butterflies…our staff put in some long and hard days…and there are always situations that need some TLC. However, we hope we are able to provide an environment that allows our staff members to develop good work ethic, learn how to be successful as a team and find value in a good day’s work.
Read MoreIt’s hard to believe that we are already into month 2 of 2018! It has been a busy month getting deposits in, plugging families into open cottages, and rearranging ones who are trying something new this year. We have posted some of our availability here on our website. However, even though our deadline was January 27th, we are still getting deposits in, as well as, cancellations. Keep checking here or give us a call!

We have been experiencing a nice and snowy one here ing Big Moose! Once we get to this part of our off-season, time begins to evaporate. Between the reservations coming in, we will start our staff hiring process soon, merchandise shows, food shows…before we know it, it’s mid-May and we are getting starting on spring cleaning!
Read MoreThis week holds an extremely big part of my heart. This is the week that I met my husband when he was a guest and I was his waitress. 10 years ago… on a Saturday night, I walked out through the swinging doors from the kitchen to his family’s table…and the rest is history!
This week holds some special events, as well. The annual beer tasting on Wednesday night has evolved over the years. My husband, Andrew, is thrilled that the IPA’s are now starting to hold their own when it comes to the vote. During this tasting, as each beer is opened and tried, the extra is poured into a swill pitcher. At the end of the evening, there could be anywhere between 30 and 50 different types and styles of beer in said swill pitcher. As a newbie, either by age or new to the week, you will be officially nominated to drink the swill. And therefore, earn your badge as “Swill-Meister”.
A concert is held on Thursday night on the porch of Cedar Lodge. All different types of lights are strung up around the porch to provide ample lighting. We are serenaded by the sounds of familiar tunes played on a guitar and a relaxing voice crooning away the evening. Not to mention, the loosely-filtered whimsical performance by our very own Liz Getty…we’ll all cheer to that!
This year, we had a celebration held in the dining room one evening. Showcasing a 50 year and a 20 year anniversary! A family organized a slideshow of wedding photos from each guest’s wedding who is staying here this week! This was sooo fantastic! Seeing wedding photos from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and the last 10 years is amazing! I love seeing the different styles through the decades…seeing how people have changed (or not changed)…and feeling the love that people have for each other is truely wonderful.
July 29th through August 5th marks what is known as the Week Six Social! This is a FUN week! Lots of kids, lots of games, and lots of cocktail parties! (There is usually one scheduled for each night of the week).
Read MoreAnd we are on to Week 5. What can I say about Week 5….what can’t I say about Week 5! Most noticeably, the volume of the dining room goes up! Not that it’s a bad thing, but it feels as if everyone is just that excited to see everyone else.
Read MoreWeek 4 has now come and gone. There is an interesting dynamic to this week. Lots of families that are related to each other. One family has about 25 members to it. And almost everyone this week has been coming 20+ years…one family has been coming since the 40’s!
Read MoreI think the most challenging thing about writing a blog is coming up with an opening line. Trying to start it off with something really catchy and interesting to draw people in to read the rest of it. I guess that right now my brain is caught up in the fog of summer-time “happenings”…
Read MoreThis has been, by far, the best weather we’ve had this year! We had four days of 75* and sun! The other few days were still very warm, but a little cloudy. Everyone took advantage of the beautiful days…we had kids fishing off the docks and many were tubing and skiing!
